Larkin & Garcia Funeral Care has a well trained staff. The members of our team are fully committed to helping people with all the process. What characterizes us is that we meet the needs of a diverse community. We take pride in our attention to the smallest detail and our compassion in listening and crafting your ideas into a perfect life tribute.


We provide several services as burial, cremation in our own crematory, entombment, or body donation. Besides, we have a complete line of granite and bronze markers and arrange the installation in any cemetery. Complete pre-planning in advance of immediate need is also available.

Involved with Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Guadalupe Center and KCK Chamber.

Meet our staff

James E. Larkin


James E. Larkin has served as President of Warren-McElwain Mortuary since his ownership in 2013.

Born in Creston, Iowa, he attended Creston High School before graduating from Southwestern Community College in 1970 and Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1971.

Within three years of opening his first funeral home in Corning, Iowa, James had four locations and partnerships with funeral homes in Ottumwa, Iowa, Glen Falls, New York, and Farmington, New Mexico. In 1999, he moved to Arcadia, CA and grew the family business to 16 locations.

With almost 50 years of experience in funeral service, he is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Kansas Funeral Directors Association and the Crematory Association of North America.

Dedicated to his community, James is a member of Lawrence Rotary Club and Crest Masonic Lodge #522. He was elected for two terms on the Southwestern Community College Board of Directors, Corning Housing Authority.

He is a member of the Kansas Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.

Sam Garcia

Funeral Director & Embalmer

Sam Garcia was born in Bakersfield, CA, were his interest in helping families through the funeral home business began. After working and learning from many reputable Funeral Homes in CA for about five years, Sam moved to Kansas to attend Kansas City Community College Mortuary Program. Sam was hired at Warren-McElwain Mortuary and remined here for about five years. During this time, Sam earned his Mortuary Science Degree. After serving his apprenticeship at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, he was given the opportunity by Jim Larkin owner of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in partnering with a new location in Kansas City now know as Larkin & Garcia Funeral Care.

Deeply dedicated to his community, Sam is involved with Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of  Greater Kansas City, Centro Hispano, Guadalupe Center, Central Avenue Betterment Association, and many churches and organizations in Kansas City Metro area.

In his spare time, Sam enjoys meeting new people, working on projects, playing and watching sports, working on his project car, playing drums, and spending time with his friends and loving dog.

Shay Celedon

Administrative Assistant

Shay Celedon was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas. Graduated from Don Bosco High School and continued her education at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Shay for a few years lived in Mexico and was able to learn a second language.

Before working at Larkin & Garcia Funeral Care, Shay worked at Alliance Home Health Care where she enjoyed helping her families and coworkers. She enjoys working with families and providing the best service and care possible which is the reason she decided to join Larkin & Garcia Funeral Care.

As the administrative assistant at Larkin & Garcia Funeral Care, Shay takes pride in her work and is very dedicated. With dedication and bilingual talent, Shay is able to help both the English and Spanish community in their most difficult time.

Shay is on her way in becoming a Funeral Director’s Assistant so that she may further help our community.

In her spare time, she enjoys the company of her family and friends. She enjoys going out, meeting new people and making new friendships. The things she cherish the most is her husband and children.
