Jeffrey Joseph Luce ,71, most recently of Baldwin City, Kansas went to be with the Lord July 17, 2019. Jeff was born June 23, 1948 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Arno E. Luce and Dorothy (Tikal) Luce. He grew up on an island in the Mississippi, spending summers, weekends and holidays with his brothers and cousins on his grandparent's farm in Minnesota. Jeff was an an athlete lettering in track, wrestling and football. He was voted all conference lineman all three years, playing both offensive guard and defensive tackle. He graduated from Logan High School in 1967. Jeff went on to join the Navy in 1968 serving on the USS Camden and the Coral Sea. During this time he excelled in body building and he won the heavy-weight boxing championship after his friends signed him up. He is a Vietnam vet and served over 12 years at various West Coast Naval bases. Following his service to his country he located in Port Orchard, Washington, where he worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a marine machinist/mechanic specializing in diesel mechanics. He retired with over 36 years of government service. He married Violet M. Story on December 27, 1969. They had 4 children, Heather, Christopher, Honey Renee and Jennifer. Jeff always had an infectious smile to accompany his wonderful sense of humor. He had a big heart, always wanting to help people in any way he could. Most of all Jeff loved spending time with his family. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, travel and bushcraft/survival skills. He was an avid reader, a food connoisseur, a music lover and was sometimes known to break into song spontaneously. He attended Eastside Bible Fellowship in Lawrence, Kansas, having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Steve and Billy, his daughter Heather Luce, and a grandson Joseph Luce. He is survived by his wife, Violet Luce, his brother, Tom Luce, and his children Christopher Luce, Honey Renee Luce-Herman, and Jennifer Blount, five grandchildren, Tyler Bailey, Memphis Herman, Chase Herman, Christopher Blount, and Alayna Blount and many loving cousins. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 27 at 1:30, at Baldwin Gospel Chapel, 304 3rd Street, Baldwin City, Kansas.
