Mary Arminta Kenney

December 6, 1932 — September 29, 2023

Mary Arminta (Minta) Kenney, December 6, 1932 - September 29, 2023

Minta Kenney, age 90, of Kansas City, KS, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023. She grew up in Findlay, OH, the first of Charles and Lois Kenney’s three children. After high school, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She married after college and was a housewife in the South.

She lived life to the fullest and traveled extensively, but always loved the mountains. Her time in Colorado and the Southwest led her to a lifelong study of various religions and beliefs. She moved to Kansas City in the early 1980s and began her master's degree at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where she graduated with a Master’s in Social Work in 1986.

Minta opened her therapy practice in Kansas City and worked with clients until she retired in the early 2000s. In retirement, she enjoyed multiple trips to Alaska with friends. She loved being with her nieces and nephews. The times she valued most were seeing her friends and family on every occasion she could. She moved to Delaware Highlands, in Kansas City, KS, fifteen years ago and had many close friends there. She found love there again and married a fellow resident, Forrest Turney. Minta enjoyed the occasional family reunions and was a happy participant at each of the weekly family Zoom calls that helped support us all through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minta is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jim Kenney, and each of her husbands. She leaves her sister, Kathy Ferner; her sister-in-law, Ginger Kenney; her nephews, Rick (Dakota) Kenney, Baer (Kat) Kenney, Matt (Sarah) Ferner; and her nieces, Connie (Joseph) Gray, Dana Long, Chris Ferner; and many extended family.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Minta on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 2 PM at Delaware Highlands, 12600 Delaware Parkway, Kansas City, KS. Please join us online if you can’t travel to KC! The Zoom link can be obtained by emailing kenney.r.t@pm.me.
