Francisco G. Lopez was born in Durango, Mexico on February 22, 1943, and moved to the U.S. in 1961 with his mother Maria Isidora and stepfather Jesus Magdaleno who retired from Santa Fe railroad after 20+ years of service. Francisco was known by many as “Pancho” and was an incredible human being. Pancho was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Guadalupe Licea on August 1st, 1970, in a ceremony in Torreon, Coahuila Mexico. They celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary in 2021 and raised their five boys in Kansas City, KS. He took great pride and gave thanks to the good Lord for blessing him with such a close and loving family. He loved his “honey” so much and she will always be his amor. Pancho worked and retired from the Unified Government in 1992. Pancho was a tremendous cook and enjoyed being in the kitchen. Whether it was mole, chile verde, enchiladas, frijoles borrachos or tamales, the food was sabrosa all around. Pancho’s most popular dish was his burros (burritos). His pork burrito recipe was perfect, and these burros were known and enjoyed on both sides of the state line. He was once pulled over by police and as Pancho began to take out his license to give to the police, the officer said, “do you have any burritos left, that’s what I stopped you for”? Pancho had a love for life and the people he met along the journey. He could make friends any and everywhere he went. Pancho’s charm and charisma along with his welcoming smile and his joyous laughter attracted people to him through his infectious love of life. He impacted so many around him over his years, and none more so than his family. Pancho loved his family, his wife, his boys, and all his grandkids. Grandpa Pancho loved when his house was full of the noise and laughter of his grandkids. His legacy lives on through all of us.
