Teresa Marquez (Reyes)

December 15, 1950 — September 29, 2022

Teresa Marquez passed on softly to the Lord, on September 29th, 2022. She was born on December 15th, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri to Joseph Romero Reyes Sr. and Catherine De La Torre Reyes. Teresa was fondly known by family and friends as Terri.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Lupe Marquez; parents Joseph and Catherine DeLaTorre Reyes; Grandson Carlos, Mother In Law Cotilde Santillan, Son in Law John Arzola and Sister-in-Law Marylou Colorado Reyes.

She is survived by her three daughters; Laura, Maria Elena (Rodrigo) and Nicole (Mike). Stepdaughters Christina and Lisa. Grandchildren Ramon, Johnnie, Matthew, Desirae, Richard, Tino, Alex, and nine Great Grandchildren. Five siblings; Eddie (Pat), Joe, Cathy (Chris), Rick and Rita, Uncle Phil De La Torre and a large amount of very much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

One of her greatest joys in life was her family. Terri was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend.

She grew up as a proud Military Air Force dependent – lovingly referred to as a BRAT, a term she loved and understood. She lived in many places including Texas, New Mexico and Tachikawa and Kanta Mura Japan. While in Japan she was a teen volunteer Candy Striper serving at Tachikawa Air Force Base. Candy Stripers were young women volunteering in hospitals.

She enjoyed cooking Mexican, Japanese and good old standards of meat and potato meals. She loved to listen and dance to Mexican Tex-Mex Music and the oldies and watching scary movies. Her ability of finding bargains at the stores granted her the best dressed grandbabies that she loved to shower with her many finds. She would often tell you that her very favorite gift was Rick, he was born on her 6th birthday so instead of a birthday party she was gifted a very special little brother to share her birthday. Her bright smile and kind and giving heart stood out in the world. Her ability to connect with people made each person she spoke with feel important and special. Recalling her doing kind deeds for others as well as changing the direction of people’s lives, for example the time when she worked at Venture and a young man came in to rob the store and she looked at him and said I don’t think you really want to do this, the young man looked puzzled at her reaction and then left. Her motherly gentle kind voice moved him to leave. We were like you did what?

We gain comfort in knowing the angels she held so dear to her heart are now surrounding her in comfort and peace.

So, we will not say Sayonara our beautiful Angel –- Only much love until we meet again.
